Work is progressing at a fast pace on Spain’s first VPO smart city for rental housing, with 530 affordable rental units in Malaga
We celebrated the flag setting of plots R11, R12, and R15 of the Distrito Universidad project, a symbolic event marking the completion of the structure of all the plots that make up this innovative residential development.
This day marks the culmination of one of the most important phases of the project, which includes the construction of 530 social rental homes, in a public-private partnership and with European funding through the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, using the European Union’s Next Generation Funds.
As you may recall, the flag setting of the first plot, R3, was held on February 24th. Since then, construction work has progressed at an excellent pace, thus shortening the expected timeframe for handing over the keys.
This new smart city, located west of Teatinos, has been made possible thanks to a strong institutional alliance between the Spanish Government, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Málaga City Council, which has granted the surface rights for 75 years to facilitate the project’s viability. Furthermore, Lagoom Living has signed a strategic financing agreement with the Official Credit Institute (ICO), endorsed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, reinforcing the institutional commitment to this socially responsible urban development model.
