We completed the structure of the R3 in Distrito Universidad with the flag-raising ceremony

Lagoom Living celebrates, together with Sacyr, the first major milestone of what will be the first VPO rental smart city in Spain.

The leading affordable rental developer in Malaga and Andalusia has celebrated the completion of the structure on plot R3 in Distrito Universidad with the traditional flag-raising ceremony. This milestone marks the culmination of the most complex phase of the work and reinforces the progress of the first major smart city project in Spain. The work, which has been completed ahead of schedule, is part of the Spanish Government’s Recovery Plan aid programme, financed by the EU’s Next Generation Funds. The handover of the keys to this first phase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

62 of the 530 homes to be distributed among the four plots in Distrito Universidad will be built on this plot, where Spain’s first VPO rental smart city will be constructed, a project that forms part of the aid programme for the construction of rental housing in energy-efficient buildings, financed by the EU’s Next Generation Funds, as part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The work is being carried out thanks to public-private collaboration, with the participation of the Government of Spain and the Andalusian Regional Government, which have channelled 25.6 million euros from the Next Generation Funds. In addition, Malaga City Council has granted the surface rights for this project for the next 75 years, with an estimated value of Lagoom Living has provided the remaining 49.9 million euros, in collaboration with Caixabank.

Sogeviso will be in charge of commercialisation, tenant management, administration and maintenance of the assets, as well as socio-community intervention.
